HOW TO MEET THE NEEDS OF YOUTH IN CHURCH

In a Church, 60% of total congregations are youths. They are the future leaders and also the resource of the Church. We find many potentialities in youth for Church development in both spiritual and material realms. However, the youth need special treatment to develop and make them meaningful and purposeful.

We can see uniqueness of youth in both biblical and sociological perspective.

BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE

  1. They are worth in Church services, 1 Sam 2:18-19, 26; 3-1
  2. God is calling them when they are young, Jer 1: 6-10
  3. They have good impact in ministry 1 Sam 17:41-51; 1 Tim 4:12-16

SOCIOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE

They change physically into maturity and begin to seek identity. They also begin to develop relationship with opposite sex and peer group. They also change in seeking moral value and begin to think about their spiritual lives which make them to search for God.

Finally, they determine their destiny by choosing mates, missions and Master. The church has a role to play in order to make them choose the right path. The following current problems among the youths need to be addressed - School drop out, sexual immorality, alcohol and drug abuse, gangterism etc.The church also should know the following causes of youth problems-

low self esteem, family break down, single parent, absence of parent, much pressure from school home work, pressure from modern life style and fashion, spiritual emptiness and confusion, distraction with music, entertainment, sex etc.

In order to solve the problems the church may take following youth programs.

1. Educate the church members on caring for youth

2. Organize youth program which is recreational, social and educational once in a year.

3. Make Plan to reach the unreached youth through personal evangelism.

4. Always provide counseling ministry for youth in the Church

THE ROLE OF PARENTs

Build a stable family life, encourage and teach your children about spiritual values.

Always provide good guidance by setting good examples, Maintain healthy and open communication with your children. Avoid unhealthy pressure on children.

At the same time, our youth also should determine to use their leisure times properly particularly in their respectively hobbies, arts and recreations. It is their great responsibilities that they should avoid bad company and set themselves free from any bad influences.

Remember that you are a spiritual being. So, maintain spiritual foundation and values. Reach out to other friends in Christian love.
